Our workshop Schedule:

February 8th: 6-7:30 pm

We are happy to be offering several classes this winter at the People's Food Coop in La Crosse, WI. We'd love it if you joined us for this first one, "Planting and Designing Native Gardens," with Judson Steinback. Sign up is at the People's Food Coop and is $10 for members and $20 for non-members

February 23rd: 6-7:30 pm

Tapping into Spring: Maple Syrup
Nothing signals the coming of spring like the sweet taste of maple sap straight from the tree and the sugary maple aroma of steam billowing off the boil-down of sap into syrup. Jarad Barkeim will teach you how to tap your own trees and boil the sap down to make your own rich, homemade syrup. Sign up is at the People's Food Coop and is $15 for members and $25 for non-members.

April 30th: All Day

Rampfest: Foraging for Wild Edibles
We are proud to be part of the Driftless Folk School teaching staff this year at RampFest. RampFest is an annual camping and folk skills weekend held on the last weekend in April celebrating ramps, local wild foods, the coming of spring, and community at B & E’s Trees: Forest Foraged Foods & Farm outside Newry, Wisconsin. The farm is a working commercial maple syrup operation that is full to the brim with natural flora and fauna and, you guessed it, ramps!  Throughout the day, attendees will have an opportunity to learn about sustainable ramp harvesting (and help dig ramps in a sustainable wild harvest), spring ephemeral and tree identification, maple syrup production, spoon carving, starting a fire with a bow drill, and more from a variety of Driftless Folk School instructors. May 14th: Spring Foraging Class with Field Trip taught by Jarad and Derek Barkeim 1

Learn how to safely identify, harvest, and prepare wild vegetables, fruits, nuts, mushrooms, and more. We will meet in the PFC classroom for a presentation and discussion on this “Forest to Table” movement. Then, we’ll go out for a foraging hike in a nearby natural area! Transportation will be provided for the field trip, wear comfortable clothes, shoes/boots for hiking. Sign up is at the People's Food Coop and is $30 for members and $45 for non-members.
